WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IN EDINBURGH

What is a ‘Hostel’?

The short answer is a basic hotel… but with more choices. Self-service laundry and self-catering kitchens are all standard but at Euro Hostel Edinburgh Halls you are in your very own inner-city apartment as well. Early check-in and late check-out are all available as is car parking, tour sales and all the necessities you might need during your stay.

Who stays at a hostel?

Everyone looking for low-cost, city-centre accommodation. 18-80 year olds from all walks of life are flocking to hostel accommodation all over the world.

What sort of rooms do you have?

We’re a little different at Euro Hostel Edinburgh Halls. All of our accommodation is in private, secure rooms within self-catering apartments. These apartments range in size from 3 persons to our massive 10-person apartments. Within these apartments are Private Single, Twin, Double & Triple Rooms. You can take a room to yourself or a whole apartment. None of our bedrooms are en-suite and all bathrooms are shared with other guests.

What do the apartments have in them?

Each apartment has private bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge/dining areas, shared bathroom(s) and shared toilet(s). The kitchens have an oven/cooker, microwave, toaster and electric kettle. All utensils and pots/pans are supplied. Everything is ready for you to bring along your own food and start cooking up a storm. Supermarkets are just few minutes walk away.

Will I be sharing a bathroom?

Yes you will. All our accommodation is in shared apartments with shared facilities. We do not have any ensuite bedrooms.

Does Euro Hostel supply bed linen?

We sure do. In fact, you are NOT permitted to use your own linen or sleeping bags. We also supply towels from reception for a small charge.

Is breakfast supplied?

No. All accommodation is self-catering. You have a kitchen in each apartment with all kitchen utensils, crockery, toaster, electric kettle, microwave, oven, pots and pans etc. And if you don’t feel like cooking we are right in the heart of the city within metres of cafes, restaurants and bars. There are supermarkets within 5 minutes walk as well. We also sell breakfast items at reception.

What time is check in and out?

Check-in is available from 3pm and check-out is by 11am. Early check-in is available from midday (£4.50 per person) and late check-out is available until 2.00pm (£4.50 per person). Reception is open 24 hours.

Is there Wi-Fi or Internet available?

Yes. WiFi is available in the reception area and all apartments for FREE!

Is there car parking?

Yes. It’s not included in the room cost but is still around half of what you’d pay anywhere else in Edinburgh at only £20.00 per 24 hour period. Remember, Edinburgh is one of the strictest cities in the world for illegal parking on the street. Don’t risk it! All onsite parking at the hostel must be pre-booked in advance as we only have very limited spaces.

If our car park is full we also have a special discounted rate at the nearby NCP at Castle Terrace. Please contact the hostel directly to arrange.

I’m arriving late, will reception be open?

Of course… we’re open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Is there a curfew?

No. You have your own key to your own apartment, and a separate key to your private room... so no need to rush home. We do just ask that you keep noise to a minimum when coming in and out of our courtyard to avoid disturbing other guests.

Can I smoke in my room?

Here at Euro Hostel we are non smokers so please do not smoke anywhere in the building, not even in a private room. We will charge you £75 should this be ignored. We insist on preserving our smoke free environment. Besides... it's the law in these parts.

Are the rooms noisy?

Please remember, we are right in the city centre and with that comes some noise from the street especially during the Edinburgh Festival and at weekends. The windows are double-glazed and on the inside of the building is a courtyard. Earplugs can be purchased from reception...just incase!

Do I have to pay anything when I book?

Yes. At the time of booking you will be charged a 12% non-refundable deposit. If you are booking for a group (6 or more people) you will notice a special section within the Terms and Conditions that you will be asked to agree to.

If I cancel / reduce my booking, do I lose my 12% deposit?

You sure do. To maintain our low rates, we have to recover costs on any lost administrative time and possible loss of income due to rooms not being sold when they were once booked out. Think of the budget airlines and what happens if you cancel with them!

What happens if I do not turn up?

You will be charged for the first nights booked accommodation. If you know you can not make it let us know by 3pm 72 hours prior to arrival and we will cancel the booking with no payment of the balance required. You still lose the deposit though.

What age do I have to be to stay at the hostel?

We welcome all ages but any under 18’s must be accompanied by 1 adult per 5-Person apartment. There must be 2 adults per 10-Person Apartment.
